Local Cemeteries, Burial & Alternatives in Washington
In the state of Washington, the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) lists all the laws that pertain to a state resident's death. Funeral directors are well-versed in these laws, but if you are not using a funeral director, you can go online and read the pertinent laws.
Sections RCW.68.50.160 (regarding disposition of remains); RCW 18.39.195 (regarding pricing information); RCW 18.39.215 (regarding embalming); and RCW 18.39.250 (regarding prepaid contracts) may be of particular interest.
The Federal Trade Commission's "Funeral Rule" requires that a General Price List be provided to the consumer, either in person or via a phone call. The FTC also has a helpful article entitled, “Choosing a Funeral Provider.” Click here.
The list below reflects funeral homes/cemeteries that recently indicated they had plots and/or niches available.

Alternatives to Traditional Burial and Cremation
Listed below is information about "green" options to traditional burial that have garnered interest in recent years.
Natural burial (aka “green burial”) is becoming more common as an alternative to traditional Western burial practices. It allows for the interment of a body in a manner that allows for natural decomposition. There are at least two green burial cemeteries in Washington state. The Green Burial Council has a good FAQ page, so for more information, click here.
Natural organic reduction, a process that transforms human remains into soil, is another green option. Three companies in the greater Seattle area offer this option: Return Home, Recompose, and Earth. They are all fully licensed funeral homes.
